Red tape a new concern for small firms
Tuesday 04 April 2006
Small firms find red tape much more of a burden today than they did two decades ago according to new research from NatWest.
Today, 19% of small firms cite government regulations and paperwork as the biggest barriers to growth and success, with many reporting that they employ fewer people simply because of concern over the amount of paperwork related to employees.
However, in 1986 just 8% of small businesses were concerned with government red tape. The research shows high interest rates and the total tax burden were the chief concerns of business owners two decades ago.
